Founder + Attorney Kristen Belolan
I founded KNB Counsel in 2019, to address the legal challenges facing startup businesses in Colorado. Like my clients, I understand that creativity, adaptability, and focus are key to the success of any startup. These same values govern both how I practice law and how I serve my clients.
I began my legal career 15 years ago at one of the oldest law firms in New York. As part of the corporate law team, I helped a wide range of businesses with formation and governance, mergers and acquisitions, financing, commercial transactions, regulatory matters, and more. As a young associate, I became driven to learn everything I could about new technology and how it could help me be a better lawyer. Over time, I turned this curiosity and knowledge into a career, and joined the business development team at a late-stage legal tech startup.
Our innovative online platform and practical resources helped lawyers work more efficiently and serve their clients better. We changed the shape of legal practice in a significant way, and I was proud to be a part of it. Eventually we were acquired by a global media firm, and I decided to take on a similar role at a legal education startup. After that, I worked for a digital media company, marketing a cutting-edge legal news service to law firms across the country. While I loved being part of such a valuable movement to modernize legal services, I missed working as an attorney. So, in 2018 I returned to the practice of law, with a valuable new set of business skills, insight, and energy.
Today, I am grateful to be serving the legal needs of the Colorado startup community. I’m confident that I’ve become a better attorney and advisor because of my unique background as an experienced corporate lawyer and as a business developer for innovative companies. The best part of my job is collaborating with founders and entrepreneurs who have a heartfelt vision and the focus, creativity, and persistence to carry it out.
I’m a proud graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, DC and Brooklyn Law School. I currently live in Genesee, Colorado - a little slice of heaven - where I read, bake, hike with my pup, and take in the beauty of it all whenever I can.
